Winnipeg police investigating 25-year-old man’s death as city’s 18th homicide of 2025

The death of a 25-year-old man near downtown Winnipeg is being investigated as a homicide – the city’s 18th of the year.
The victim as been identified as Melvin Catcheway, a member of Lake St. Martin First Nation who was living in Winnipeg.
Officers were called to Langside Street near Sargent Avenue in the early hours of Friday morning. They found Catcheway with serious injuries; he was taken to hospital in critical condition where he died of those injuries.
