Man charged for allegedly assaulting sex trade workers: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say a 19-year-old man has been charged for allegedly assaulting several sex trade workers.
On Apr. 25, WPS received a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted with a weapon, after allegedly arranging to meet with him.
Reports indicate the incident happened near St. Matthews Avenue and Empress Street. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.
On May 10, WPS received a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted and robbed at knifepoint after allegedly arranging to meet with a man.
Reports indicate the incident happened near Hargrave Street and Portage Avenue. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.
Following this, police were able to identify a man believed to be connected.
On Oct. 4, WPS received another report that a woman had been sexually assaulted after arranging to meet with a man.
Reports indicate the incident happened near Sargent Avenue and Century Street. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police note that in all three incidents, the women were working in the sex trade.
On Oct. 13, police were able to take 19-year-old Mohammed Al-Samraei into custody in connection to the incidents in April and May.
He has since been charged with two counts of sexual assault, pointing a firearm, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon prohibited device or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, assault, overcome resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle another person, uttering threats, and theft under $5,000.
Through a continued investigation, police have been able to link Al-Samraei to the assault on Oct. 4.
