Man charged after 2 Winnipeg police officers were injured during vehicle chase

Winnipeg police say two officers were injured in a collision during a vehicle pursuit Thursday night.

Around 10:00 p.m. on Dec. 11, WPS responded to a report that a distressed 44-year-old man was was driving a 1993 Ford Aerostar erratically in various Transcona parking lots and was headed out of city limits.

Roughly 20 minutes later, police located the Aerostar heading south at Lagimodière Boulevard and Elizabeth Road, and tried to conduct a traffic stop at the Perimeter Highway overpass.

During an attempted stop near Leclaire Road and Highway 59, the Aerostar was used to ram into two police vehicles, causing one of the police vehicles to slide into a ditch, rendering it inoperable. Two officers were reportedly injured during the collisions, but WPS have not released the extent of the injuries or if they were taken to a hospital.

Following this, the Aerostar continued to flee until it was stopped near Isle des Chênes, and the driver was taken into custody.

The 44-year-old driver is facing four counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, flight while pursued by a peace officer, and uttering threats causing bodily harm.
