Manitoba RCMP says a woman is dead and a man is in hospital following a two-vehicle collision along the Trans-Canada Highway over the weekend.
Mounties responded to a report of a collision at the intersection of Highway 1 and Provincial Road 250 in the RM of Whitehead, around 8:50 p.m. on Sept. 13.
When they arrived at the scene, they found a truck and an SUV in the centre grassy median. Both were heavily damaged.
Through an investigation, police believe that the SUV was heading south on Provincial Road 250 when it entered the intersection. The truck, which was driving west on Highway 1, then hit the SUV’s driver’s side door.
Both the 77-year-old woman driving the SUV and the 78-year-old man who was a passenger were taken to hospital by paramedics with critical injuries. The woman has since died from her injuries.
Mounties say that the 23-year-old woman who was driving the truck and the 20-year-old woman who was a passenger in the truck were not physically injured.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision, and an investigation is ongoing.
