Man arrested in downtown Winnipeg for threatening pedestrians with a knife

On Friday evening, Winnipeg police responded to reports of a man armed with a knife threatening several pedestrians at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Main Street.
One of the pedestrians contacted police after they were chased by the suspect and forced to jump into a passing security vehicle to avoid him.
Police located the suspect at Portage and Main, where he was still in possession of a knife. He attempted to run, but was taken into custody near main street and mcdermot avenue.
No injuries were reported.
25-year-old Phillip William Riel-Labiuk has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and failing to comply with his Release Order. He was detained in custody.
