Winnipeg firefighters battle more vacant house fires

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services are continuing to deal with vacant house fires in the city.

Monday, fire crews attended two homes — one on Powers Street and another on Burrows Avenue — after receiving reports of fires.

Around 8:11 p.m., WPFS was called to a vacant two-storey home on Powers.

When crews arrived, they could see heavy smoke and fire coming from the home, and they began to fight the fire from outside.

Around 8:56 p.m., the fire was declared under control. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

WFPS notes that the vacant home was previously damaged in a fire in September 2023.

A couple of hours later, WPFS responded to another fire at an unoccupied bungalow on Burrows.

Firefighters battled the blaze from outside the home before being able to enter it, and were able to declare the fire under control around 12:28 a.m., roughly half an hour after they arrived.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
