Air quality alert issued across Manitoba due to wildfire smoke

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued special air quality statements for more than 100 communities across Manitoba, including Winnipeg and Brandon, due to smoke from wildfires in northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
As of 6 a.m. Friday, the agency is warning residents of deteriorating air quality and reduced visibility caused by the smoke.
To minimize health risks, ECCC recommends staying indoors as much as possible, keeping windows and doors closed, and using high-quality air filters in ventilation systems to maintain clean indoor air.
For those who need to be outside, wearing a respirator-style mask is advised to limit smoke exposure.
Individuals most at risk from the poor air quality include seniors, pregnant people, infants and young children, those with pre-existing health conditions, and people who work outdoors.
ECCC urges anyone experiencing symptoms such as headaches, eye or throat irritation, coughing, wheezing, or chest discomfort to seek medical care promptly.
