The deaths of a man and woman after reports of a shooting in the North End early Saturday morning are being investigated as homicides.

The Winnipeg Police Service says 33-year-old Sheldon Derrach Catcheway of Swan Lake First Nation and 35-year-old Shanastene Irene McLeod of Muskowekwan First Nation in Saskatchewan were identified as the victims. Both were living in Winnipeg.

Police say officers were called to a home on Alfred Avenue near Aikins Street around 4:15 a.m. for the report of a woman who had been shot.

Patrol officers and members of the tactical support team arrived to find Catcheway outside the home with an upper-body injury. McLeod, also with an upper-body injury, was located inside the home.

Both were transported to hospital in critical condition, where they died of their injuries.

The WPS homicide team is investigating.
