The City of Winnipeg has provided an update on the Portage and Main construction project.
The City says the removal of the concrete barricades at the intersection is now complete, as crews continue to work on the underground portion.
The project was first approved in March 2024 and will include new traffic signals and streetlights, a curb extension on the southeast corner, new curbs and sidewalks, and new transit stops.
Mayor of Winnipeg Scott Gillingham says the project is on time and on budget.
The city adds that lane closures at the intersection will remain unchanged until construction is completed. Work to rebuild the centre medians is expected to begin in April, and the project is expected to be open to pedestrians by July 1st this year.
