Manitoba woman accused of striking Mountie with vehicle was driving impaired, RCMP say

Manitoba RCMP say a 40-year-old woman is facing charges after she was allegedly driving while impaired Saturday evening.

Mounties from Dauphin say they conducted a traffic stop around 2:05 a.m. on a vehicle that was stopped at a store on Main Street.

Police allege the driver failed to comply with officers and tried to flee from the parking lot. While trying to flee, the driver allegedly struck an RCMP officer, who reportedly suffered minor injuries.

RCMP say the woman continued to flee south on Main Street, making a left turn onto a side street, at which point she lost control of the vehicle and hit a snowbank.

Officers say they then approached the vehicle, and the woman reportedly continued to refuse to exit the vehicle. RCMP notes the window of the vehicle was open at the time, which allowed officers to open the door and take the woman into custody.

Mounties say they then took breath samples from the woman, which were allegedly found to be two times over the legal limit.

The woman is facing charges of driving while impaired, assaulting a police officer, dangerous driving, and fleeing from police. She is expected in court March 27.
