No financials compromised in Pembina Trails cyber attack, school division says

The Pembina Trails School Division is reassuring parents their financial information was not compromised in a cyber attack that locked up the schools’ various electronic systems last week.

A statement from Pembina Trails superintendent/CEO Shelley Amos noted since the beginning of the attack, the division secured the services of a cybersecurity firm to investigate after suspicious activity was detected by its IT team.
“We do not store financial information on our student information system, and any financial information for international students is stored on a distinct system that was not involved in this incident,” Amos said.
The school division superintendent adds the ongoing investigation could take weeks, or even months.
