Video showing Winnipeg man shoveling endless sidewalk drawing kudos online.
A pair of Winnipeggers’ good deed in the face of frigid temperatures has resulted in some Internet fame.
Kevin and Jamie Pfau thought their shovelling days were over when they moved into their condo, but after seeing a number of folks taking a spill on a nearby icy sidewalk, they decided to take action, clearing the path to a nearby grocery store.
“I thought it was hilarious so I took a video of it, but I never expected it to go viral,” said Jamie Pfau.
The video shows her husband Kevin Pfau toiling away on what appears to be an endless sidewalk of snow, the clip — and act of compassion — catching the Internet’s attention.
“The building has a lot of seniors, they go onto it and slip,” Kevin said. “I noticed it wasn’t cleared so I thought: ‘I’ll do it’.”
What happened next was unexpected, thousands of views, likes and comments flooded in, from people commending the effort, but Jamie says Kevin has always been one to help.
“He is like the Canadian Paul Bunyun who will get your car unstuck out of a ditch, he’ll shovel. He’s just that kinda person naturally, I’m happy so many people were feeling that and supporting him.”
It wasn’t long before his good deed got the attention of Canadian Tire, who offered not only kudos, but a helping hand in the form of a new snowblower to ensure the path stays clear all winter, the new tool against the tumbles coming as a total surprise.
“I didn’t even tell him that I posted the tiktok,” said Jamie, stressing her husband isn’t even on the app. “He had no idea until Canadian Tire offered to gift us a snowblower.”
As for the man himself, Kevin says he’s satisfied simply in the fact people feel safer on their journeys.
“People have come up to me and said it’s nice to walk on the sidewalk now,” he said. “I think especially for the holidays you got to spread the cheer and love that’s what we are trying to do.”
