Winnipeg police says a 28-year-old man has been charged for attempting to stab a police officer Thursday afternoon.
WPS says around 4:22 p.m., WPS responded to a report that a man was armed with a gun in the Point Douglas area.
Several patrol units and a K9 unit responded to the area. WPS notes that officers who were already in the area for an unrelated matter found a man matching the description of the suspect along Lorne Avenue.
WPS says that as an officer attempted to exit their vehicle, the man reportedly approached the vehicle and attempted to stab the officer through an open window. The officer was able to use the door to defend themself and was not injured.
Following this, the man was taken into custody. Police were able to seize the knife and a replica firearm.
