Manitoba storm claims near historic record as MPI receives 20,000 reports

Manitoba Public Insurance has received approximately 20,000 claims since Tuesday’s severe storm, putting the event on pace to surpass the previous record of 24,000 claims set in 1996.
MPI says the unprecedented volume has prompted a new phased approach to claims processing aimed at helping customers receive damage assessments and begin repairs more quickly.
Customers with drivable vehicles are encouraged to file claims online, while those with non-drivable vehicles should contact MPI directly. MPI says delays are expected and is asking customers for patience as it responds to what could become the largest claims event in its history.
