Man trashes home after domestic incident, threatens officers with knife: Winnipeg police

By News Staff

Police say a Winnipeg man armed with a knife threatened to kill officers and tried stabbing them outside a home he allegedly trashed the day before.

The Winnipeg Police Service says officers used several tasers on the 36-year-old suspect after he allegedly refused to drop a knife outside a home on Alfred Avenue near McPhillips Street on Sunday morning.

Officers were at the home after it was reported a man had broken into it. They say they arrived to find the suspect leaving the property. Nobody else was home.

After tasering him, police say the suspect was disarmed and taken into custody. He was medically assessed and cleared by attending WFPS members, police add.

Investigators believe the suspect fled the same home on Saturday – the day before – following a separate domestic incident that was reported to police and in which the victim was not injured.

The man “caused substantial damage to property within the residence before fleeing prior to the arrival of police,” WPS said in a news release. He returned to the home the next day.

Tyler Vernon Dyke is facing multiple charges including two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and domestic assault. He was detained in custody.
