Winnipeg police have charged two people in connection to an animal abuse investigation after videos and photos of animals being killed and tortured were posted on the dark web.
WPS says in August, they received a report from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian Animal Welfare regarding the videos.
It is believed that around 10 cats had been abused. Some had been purchased from social media selling platforms.
Through an investigation, police believe the videos and photos were created in Winnipeg.
The investigation led officers to execute a search warrant at a home in the Lord Roberts neighbourhood, at which point two people were taken into custody.
As a result, 55-year-old Irene Lima and 40-year-old Chad Kabecz have been charged with killing or injuring animals, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, failing to provide adequate medical attention for an animal when it is wounded or ill, and inflict upon an animal acute suffering, serious injury or harm, or extreme anxiety or distress that significantly impairs its health or well-being.
