6 people evacuated from Furby Street house fire

Winnipeg firefighters helped six people evacuate a house fire early Saturday morning.

The six residents of the two-story home on Furby Street near Sargent Avenue were assessed by paramedics but did not need to be hospitalized.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called at 3:30 a.m., with crews arriving to find smoke and fire coming from the house.

The blaze, which is under investigation, was declared under control at 3:51 a.m.

Later Saturday, at 1:06 p.m., crews were called to put out a fire at a vacant home on Redwood Avenue near Aikins Street.

They fought the fire from the interior and it was declared under control at 1:39 p.m.

That fire is also under investigation.
