Manslaughter charge laid in 2023 West End death

Winnipeg police have charged a man with manslaughter in connection with the September 2023 death of 56-year-old Robert Billings.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the suspect was arrested on the strength of a warrant Tuesday at a home on Saint Paul Avenue, just a few blocks from the scene of the alleged crime.
Investigators don’t believe the suspect and victim knew each other.
Officers were called to a back lane on Lipton Street between Ellice Avenue and Sargent Avenue in the early hours of Sept. 11, 2023, for the report of an injured man. Billings was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he died of his injuries.
Christopher Michael Gatehouse, 43, has been charged with manslaughter. He was detained in custody.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
