1 person in critical condition, 3 pets dead after North End blaze

A person was taken to hospital in critical condition after a fire at a North End home early Monday morning that killed three pets, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says.

Crews arrived at the two-storey house on Alfred Avenue near Aikins Street around 3:11 a.m.

Firefighters rescued a person trapped inside the building; they were hospitalized after being assessed by paramedics on the scene.

The WFPS says several pets were found inside the home. Two cats and a dog died, while four kittens were saved and will be cared for by the city’s Animal Services.

The blaze was declared under control at 4 a.m. The cause is under investigation.
