Woman fatally stabbed in downtown apartment; suspect in custody: Winnipeg police

By News Staff

A 29-year-old man is facing second-degree murder charges in connection with a 37-year-old woman’s death at a downtown apartment Friday evening.

The victim has been identified as Rachel Muswagon, who was from Norway House Cree Nation and lived in Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the accused and victim knew each other.

Police say they were called to the apartment complex on Sargent Avenue near Kennedy Street around 7:45 p.m. for the report of a woman who had been stabbed.

Officers arrived to find Muswagon with a serious stab wound. She was taken to hospital in critical condition where she was pronounced dead.

Police say officers arrested a man inside the apartment “without incident,” and the homicide unit took over the investigation.

Dustin Cody Swampy was charged and was detained in custody.
