Escaped convict back in custody after 5 days at large: Manitoba RCMP

The Manitoba RCMP says an escaped convict is back in custody after being on the loose for five days.

Mounties say on Jan. 10, 24-year-old Terry Dutko escaped while on a supervised visit in Winnipeg.

The RCMP, along with Winnipeg Police Services, began searching for Dutko, which led them to a home in Selkirk on Jan. 15.

When officers arrived at the home, they noticed Dutko leaving from the back, in an attempt to flee.

It was at this time that police say he was taken into custody. However, police say he reportedly refused officers’ demands and began kicking and punching a police dog.

The RCMP says Dutko suffered injuries during this altercation with the police dog, and was treated in a hospital.

One RCMP officer from Selkrik and one WPS officer were also injured during the arrest.

Dutko has since been returned to Stony Mountain Institution, and is facing charges of being unlawfully at large, two counts of resisting arrest, and two counts of assaulting a police officer.
