Toddler accidentally ingests fentanyl in North Point Douglas home: WPS

Winnipeg police say a man is facing charges after a toddler accidentally ingested what investigators believe was fentanyl at a home in North Point Douglas Saturday.

The Winnipeg Police Service says when residents observed the child in medical distress, they began CPR an called 911.

Police say the child, who needed “immediate medical attention,” was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The toddler was stabilized after “several doses of Narcan,” Winnipeg police said in a news release.

Investigators believe the child, whose age was not revealed, was crawling on the floor at the North Point Douglas home and “inadvertently ingested a substance believed to be fentanyl.”

The WPS child abuse unit was alerted.

A 28-year-old Winnipeg man is facing a charge of causing bodily harm by criminal negligence. He was released on an undertaking and is prohibited from attending the child’s residence.
