Winnipeg police have charged two women with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a man in Point Douglas last week.

Officers were called to a suite on Austin Street North near Euclid Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday for the report of a death.

The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Derek Karl Stevenson.

Investigators believe the victim and two women who knew him were socializing.

“A physical altercation erupted, at which time the two females assaulted the victim, causing fatal injuries,” WPS said in a news release.

Two 20-year-old women, Cherilyn Ashley Dumas and Calianna Grace Keeper, have been charged and detained in custody.
