Winnipeg police say a man is facing eight charges following a knife incident which lead to officers being assaulted late Sunday night.
Around 11:40 p.m., officers responded to Magnus Avenue near Leo Novak Street in the city’s Shaughnessy Heights neighbourhood, following a report of a man with a knife.
When officers arrived, they found the armed suspect. At the time, officers noticed he appeared to be intoxicated.
“The suspect challenged officers while armed and refused to comply with directions. A Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) was deployed, including other Use of Force tactics, to gain compliance with the violent and aggressive individual,” said Winnipeg police in a statement.

The 33-year-old suspect has since been charged with two counts of possession of a weapon, two counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order, resisting a peace officer, and three counts of assaulting a peace officer.
