Police say a man was stabbed after two suspects attempted to rob him at knifepoint in the Logan-C.P.R. area Saturday night.

The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable, according to police.

The Winnipeg Police Service says one suspect was arrested early Sunday morning while the second remains at large.

Police say they received a report of a stabbing on Alexander Avenue near Keewatin Street around 11:45 p.m.

Officers, assisted by police dogs, found the 40-year-old man suffering from severe upper-body injuries sustained from a stabbing. Two suspects fled on foot before police arrived.

About 30 minutes later, with the help of a police helicopter, officers found one of the suspects on Logan Avenue near Winks Street. Officers allege they asked the suspect to stop, but he fled on foot.

“After a short foot pursuit, officers safely placed him under arrest without incident. A sharp-edged weapon was recovered nearby by officers,” the WPS said in a release.

Investigators with the major crimes unit believe the victim was walking on Logan Avenue near Yeomans Street when he was approached by the two suspects, who tried to rob him at knifepoint.

“Without provocation, one of the suspects stabbed the victim resulting in significant upper-body injuries. Both suspects fled on foot, and the victim ran to safety for assistance,” WPS said.

Police say the suspect and victim did not know one another.

A 24-year-old Winnipeg man was charged with robbery and failure to comply with the condition of a release order. He was detained in custody.
