Two men were taken into custody following an operation that saw several Winnipeg police vehicles converge on the Westwood neighbourhood Thursday morning.
The Winnipeg Police Service tells CityNews it began after an individual was seen walking to a vehicle with what appeared to be a firearm on Byrd Avenue near Rouge Road shortly before 8:30 a.m.
Authorities later turned their attention to a home in the area.
Police officers, members of the tactical support team and a drone unit responded to the scene.
A section of Byrd Avenue and neighbouring streets were closed off.
“The matter has now been resolved and no injuries were reported,” Const. Claude Chancy told CityNews in an email at 2:27 p.m.
“There is no threat to public safety at this time.”
Chancy says two men were arrested and police seized a stolen vehicle and weapons, including a gun.
