Winnipeg police charge man in relation to pair of stabbings in downtown

Winnipeg police have charged one man after two people were stabbed in downtown Winnipeg.

WPS say around 5 p.m. on March 10, officers responded to reports that two men had been stabbed near Portage Avenue and Smith Street.

The first report said a man who was shopping was approached by another man, who was holding a knife, before being stabbed.

Moments later, a second man was approached by the man holding the knife. A brief conversation took place before the second man was stabbed.

Officers and paramedics attended the scenes, and both victims were taken to hospital in unstable condition, before being upgraded to stable condition.

Police were able to locate the suspect near Portage Avenue and Garry Street and noted he was intoxicated at the time.

The 28-year-old from Winnipeg, has since been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon.
