‘Extremely troubling’: 4-year-old girl dead, 2 children found injured at home in First Nation west of Winnipeg

A four-year-old girl is dead and two other girls – aged one and two – were hospitalized with injuries after being found at a home on a First Nation west of Winnipeg on Sunday.
Officers with the Manitoba First Nation Police Service (MFNPS) were called by EMS to a home on Long Plain First Nation, around Portage la Prairie, for the report of a child in medical distress.
The four-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two other young girls in the home were taken to hospital – one in critical condition and the other in stable condition. Both are now in stable condition.
Manitoba RCMP major crime services is investigating due to the suspicious nature of the child’s death and the other girls’ serious injuries.
“This is extremely troubling, and we know the community will be searching for answers as to what occurred within this household,” said Supt Rob Lasson, the officer in charge of major crime services. “We want to reassure the community that our investigators are working closely with MFNPS and Long Plain First Nation.”
