Manitoba Health confirms data breach after break-in at facility

Manitoba Health has reported a privacy breach at the Manitoba Health Appeal Board (MHAB) following a break-in at the office late Tuesday evening.

At this point and time, Manitoba Health isn’t sure how much personal data was stolen but has confirmed “confidential information was securely stored in the office,” which includes personal health information as well as other private information of clients.

Those who may have been impacted will hear from Manitoba Health directly, where they will be notified of the potential identity items that were stolen.

The Mental Health Review Board (MHRB), which is located in the same building, is also believed to have had data stolen.

Winnipeg Police and Manitoba Ombudsman have been contacted about the break-in and data breach, and an investigation is ongoing.
