One dead in ‘accidental’ garage fire on Berkley Street

One person died after a garage fire in the Charleswood neighbourhood Tuesday night.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says it was called to a detached garage on fire on Berkley Street near Betsworth Avenue around 9:15 p.m.

Crews arrived to find the garage engulfed in flames. They were told one person was trapped in the garage.

The fire was declared under control by 9:50 p.m.

The individual was declared dead on the scene.

Another person was assessed by paramedics. They were not transported to hospital.

“The fire remains under investigation but is believed to be accidental,” WFPS said in a statement.
