Front-end loader intentionally crashed into Main Street 7-Eleven: WPS

By News Staff

Winnipeg police believe the driver of a front-end loader intentionally drove the vehicle into a convenience store on Main Street Tuesday morning before driving away.

The Winnipeg Police Service says it happened shortly before 4:20 a.m. on Main Street and Bannerman Avenue.

The vehicle crashed into a 7-Eleven and caused a “substantial amount of damage to the front of the store,” according to Const. Jay Murray. The store was closed at the time.

“We do believe this was a break and enter,” Murray said.

The front-end loader has not been located.

Though not confirmed, Winnipeg police are presuming the loader may have been stolen.

“Typically in the past we’ve seen this mechanism of a break and enter,” said Murray. “It doesn’t happen too often but we often find stolen vehicles that are used to either ram a business or to force entry. Typically in those cases they’re stolen trucks.

“It’s extremely rare to see heavy equipment like this be used.”
