Winnipeg man stole purses from 3 seniors, including 1 at knifepoint: WPS

By News Staff

Police say a 50-year-old Winnipeg man was arrested and charged in connection with three separate purse snatchings last month – including one at knifepoint.

Winnipeg police say the three victims were women ranging in age from 66 to 79. None of the victims were injured.

The alleged robberies took place between Sept. 20 and Sept. 26.

On Sept. 20 around 12:30 p.m., police say the suspect stole a 79-year-old woman’s purse at knifepoint on Kenaston Boulevard near Grant Avenue.

“The suspect used the knife to cut the purse strap to steal it from the victim before he fled in a nearby vehicle,” police said in a statement.

Police say the suspect then used the victim’s credit card at three gas stations and two motels.

Two days later, around 11 p.m., police believe the same suspect stole a 66-year-old woman’s purse on McPhillips Street near Jarvis Avenue, before feeling in a vehicle.

On Sept. 26 around 12:30 p.m., WPS says the suspect stole a 79-year-old woman’s purse on Cambridge Street near Fleet Avenue. The suspect fled on foot.

“The suspect subsequently used the victim’s stolen debit and credit cards at a restaurant, gas station, and motel,” police said.
