Winnipeg woman charged with animal cruelty after kitten stabbed

By News Staff

Winnipeg police say a 29-year-old woman is facing animal cruelty charges after she allegedly stabbed an eight-month-old kitten that was in her care.

The injured kitten received emergency surgery at a veterinary hospital, but was later euthanized due to its injuries.

WPS responded to the report of an injured animal Monday around 4 p.m. on Wellington Avenue near Arlington Street in the city’s West End.

Officers arrived to find the kitten suffering from “severe bodily injuries.”

The suspect was arrested. Police believe substance abuse played a factor.

The accused, who was not named by police, was charged with killing or injuring an animal.

Winnipeg police say animal cruelty or neglect should be reported to Provincial Animal Care at 204-945-8000.
