Another fire in vacant Winnipeg home, this time on College Avenue

By News Staff

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says a vacant, two-storey house in the city’s North End went up in flames early Saturday morning.

The WFPS says they received reports shortly before 6 a.m. about the home on College Avenue near Aikins Street.

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the structure. The fire was declared under control by about 6:30 a.m.

There were no occupants in the house, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Vacant homes going up in flames

It’s the latest in a string of vacant homes going up in flames in the past few weeks.

On Sept. 3, fire crews needed to put out a fire in a vacant one-and-a-half storey house Saturday morning on Burrows Avenue near Powers Street.

Earlier that week, three firefighters were hurt putting out a fire in a vacant multi-family home on Toronto Street.

And the previous weekend, a firefighter was injured putting out a fire at a vacant home on Selkirk Avenue.
