WPS investigators determined the aides at the personal care home in Sturgeon Heights “used inappropriate physical actions on separate occasions.”

Police allege this was done “to gain the compliance of five elderly residents while performing their daily care duties.”

The force’s specialized investigations unit says the alleged assaults took place between last August and this January.

Police say none of the victims required medical treatment.

On Monday the two aides were arrested. Police say a 49-year-old woman is facing three assault charges, and a 36-year-old woman is facing two assault charges.

They were released on an undertaking.

Police investigation began in June

The investigation into the allegations of abuse – which were said to involve 15 residents – began in June.

The allegations were first brought forward to Extendicare management by a whistleblower in February.

They were brought to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) by another whistleblower on June 10.
