Shawn Mendes cancels world tour, including Toronto shows, to focus on mental health

Canadian singer Shawn Mendes says he is cancelling the remainder of his tour dates as he continues to focus on his mental health.

In a message posted to social media, the Pickering native says he made the decision after consulting with his team, and mental health professionals.

“I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic,” reads the post. “The reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away.”

“It has become more clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger.”

Mendes had been scheduled to perform in Toronto on July 31 and August 2.

The pop singer began his Wonder world tour on June 27, and had more than 80 tour dates scheduled to wind through North America into the fall, before heading to Europe in 2023.

The singer previously announced he would be postponing a string of U.S. tour dates earlier this month so he could “heal and take care” of himself.

“I’ve been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it’s always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family,” he wrote at the time.

His schedule had him playing numerous back-to-back nights in different cities with single-day breaks between many of the dates. Other Canadian dates included two shows in Montreal in August.
