Man charged following assault of man in 70s over the weekend

A 24-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged following an assault on an elderly man over the weekend.
Police say a man in his 70s was walking in the area of Disraeli Street and Henry Avenue on Sunday night, when an unknown man approached him from behind and struck his head with a wooden board.
Witnesses reportedly informed a nearby security officer, who chased down the suspect and detained him until police arrived.
The elderly man was treated by paramedics at the scene and was not taken to hospital.
The suspect remains in custody.
