Winnipeg man facing impaired driving charge after car crashes into bus shelter, downs hydro line

Winnipeg police allege a man was driving drunk after a vehicle damaged a bus shelter and downed a hydro line downtown on Sunday morning.
The Winnipeg Police Service alleges the 49-year-old accused was driving fast on Sargent Avenue, going east, when he lost control of his car while trying to turn onto Balmoral Street.
Police say the car crashed into a bus shelter and a Manitoba Hydro pole before continuing into a traffic signal box.
“The vehicle ultimately came to rest with its front wheels suspended off the ground,” WPS said in news release.
No injuries were reported.
Officers arrived on scene around 9:30 a.m. and spoke to the driver, with police saying they determined he was impaired by alcohol. They took him into custody.
He’s facing a charge of operation of a conveyance while impaired to any degree by bac or drug or a combination of both.
