Police recover vehicle, arrest Winnipeg man wanted in carjacking of Mercedes

Police say a 34-year-old Winnipeg man was taken into custody and a stolen white Mercedes has been recovered following a carjacking earlier this week.

Police say a man and two women were approached by the suspect, who was carrying a weapon, outside a convenience store on Corydon Avenue Monday.

The suspect reportedly demanded the keys, assaulted the man that was with the women and fled the scene in the car.

Tuesday afternoon, police say an off-duty officer spotted the Mercedes in the Glenwood neighbourhood and called for police back-up.

The man was taken into custody, and the victims identified him as the suspect in the carjacking.

The suspect is facing charges of robbery and “drive disqualified,” which is an offence in the Highway Traffic Act.
