Police run to conquer cancer returns to the asphalt Sunday

Following two years of running online, the Foodfare Winnipeg Police Service Half Marathon will be returning to the streets of Winnipeg for its 18th annual run to conquer cancer.

The half marathon, 2-person relay, and 5K run will have a slightly different feel this year, as runners will be broken up into five ten-minute starting windows rather than one mass start.

Winnipeggers are encouraged to make their way out to Assiniboine Park to support the runners involved in the police run, which raises money each year to fund cancer research.

“We are on track to surpass $2.4 million raised in support of cancer research and supports for Manitoba cancer patients,” said a Winnipeg Police spokesperson in a statement.

Roughly 1,500 people have registered to take part in the run, which will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.

In addition, a few roads will be closed for the morning due to the run. Roads impacted are as follows:

  • Westbound Wellington Crescent from Guelph Street to the Assiniboine Park
  • Northbound Park Boulevard North to Wellington Crescent
  • Access to Assiniboine Park is limited to the West entrance (Zoo parking lot)
  • Other areas of the course are shared with traffic and separated by traffic delineators.
