Man stabbed, beaten and prevented from leaving Elmwood residence: WPS

Winnipeg police say a man in his 20s was stabbed and beaten during an argument at a gathering in Elmwood early Monday morning.

The victim was allegedly then prevented from leaving the building on Johnson Avenue near Brazier Street.

Police say he managed to escape to a nearby convenience store, at which point officers were called.

Officers found the injured victim around 2:15 a.m. and provided emergency medical care, including using a tourniquet.

He was transported to hospital in unstable condition. He has since been upgraded to stable.

Six people – ranging in age from 24 to 42 – were arrested and charged with aggravated assault and forcible confinement. They were all detained in custody.

An investigation led police to determine the victim as at the residence building on Johnson Avenue “along with several other previously known acquaintances from the drug subculture.”
