‘Captain Clutch’ leads Canada to gold in women’s Olympic hockey final

All Marie-Philip Poulin does is score goals in the biggest games against the United States.

Nicknamed Captain Clutch, Poulin scored twice to lead Canada to a 3-2 win over the Americans in the women’s hockey final at the Beijing Olympics.

The two goals give her seven in four gold medal games at the Olympics, and nine career goals against the U.S. at the Olympics and World Championship.

It was her overtime goal against the U.S. almost six months to the day that lifted Canada to gold at the World Championship.

Sarah Nurse had a goal and an assist for Canada to set a pair of Olympic records with 18 points and 13 assists in a single tournament.

Ann-Renee Desbiens turned aside 38 of 40 shots for the win.

Hilary Knight and Amanda Kessel scored for the Americans who were looking to win back-to-back Olympic titles for the first time after defeating Canada in a shootout four years ago in South Korea.
