Two teenage girls ‘aggressively assaulted’ woman on her way to work: WPS

WINNIPEG (CityNews) – Two teenage girls are facing several charges after police say they seriously assaulted a 47-year-old woman on Friday night.

The two girls, aged 14 and 15, allegedly assaulted the woman just after 10:30 p.m. in the area of Meadowood Drive and St. Anne’s Road.

Police say the two teens asked the woman for money, then tried to steal her purse when she declined. They dragged her and then “aggressively assaulted” her.

A bystander intervened and chased the alleged attackers away. They were later arrested.

Police believe drugs or alcohol may have played a factor.

The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition and remained there overnight.

“In this case this female had just disembarked the bus and was on her way to work when she was attacked,” said Const. Jay Murray at a press conference on Sunday. “So I think this is a crime that will resonate with the community, especially those that live in the area.

“It’s very disturbing especially given the ages of the suspects involved.”
