Man charged with allegedly starting a fire outside a store

Winnipeg police say a 41-year-old man has been charged in connection with an alleged arson Thursday night.

WPS says officers responded to a building along Dublin Avenue around 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 1, after the business owner reportedly received an alert from the property’s surveillance system.

Reports indicated that someone was seen setting the fire.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found wooden pallets stacked against the building on fire and were able to find a man who was believed to be connected to the incident nearby. While police were taking the man into custody, they were able to find and seize a matchbox, lighter, and torch.

WFPS also responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Since then, 41-year-old Shawn Andrew Grisdale has been charged with arson, possessing incendiary material, and failing to comply with a Release Order.
