A man wanted in connection with a series of commercial break-ins, vehicle thefts and property crimes in Winnipeg and Headingley has been arrested.
The Winnipeg Police Service says Jesse Lafreniere was taken into custody on Tuesday following a “brief foot chase” in the northeast part of the city.
Lafreniere was charged with break and enter, theft, possession of stolen property and more. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
He’s the second suspect arrested by police in their investigation into 13 separate incidents from April 20 to June 28 in Winnipeg and Headingley.
Authorities estimate $140,000 of property was stolen, from trailers, lawn equipment, and mechanical equipment to motorcycles, bicycles, and a vehicle.
Investigators allege stolen vehicles and stolen licence plates were used during the offences, and that the suspects frequently wore disguises.
A 35-year-old man was arrested Aug. 4. Police say a search of a home later in the day revealed stolen property, a rifle, ammunition, and a lock cutter. He was charged with 22 offences, including break and enter, theft, weapons charges, and possession of stolen property.
Police allege both suspects were wearing electronic monitoring bracelets during the incidents.
