Manitoba health officials to host telephone town hall for measles on Wednesday

Manitoba health officials will be hosting a telephone town hall on Wednesday regarding measles.

The session will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, and will provide an opportunity to connect with communities and answer questions so Manitobans can make informed decisions for themselves, their families and their communities.

Dr. Jazz Atwal, the deputy chief provincial public health officer, will provide an update on the measles situation while also responding to questions.

Manitobans are encouraged to join the town hall, and can register on the Government of Manitoba website.

Symptoms of measles generally appear seven to 21 days after exposure. Initial symptoms of measles may include fever, runny nose, drowsiness, irritability, and red eyes. Small white spots may also develop on the inside of the mouth or throat.

Several days after the initial symptoms, a red blotchy rash appears on the face and progresses down the body. Measles can lead to complications including ear infections, diarrhea, pneumonia (lung infection) and encephalitis (brain inflammation).
