Manitoba reaches new milestone of practicing physicians

Over 3,700 physicians are in practice in Manitoba, according to the provincial government and Doctors Manitoba.

In a joint statement Thursday, both announced that Manitoba had hit the historic milestone after adding over 355 physicians since 2023.

“More doctors in Manitoba means more Manitobans getting connected to care,” said Uzoma Asagwara, Minister of Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care.

“In just two years, Manitoba has gone from among the lowest rates of primary care access in Canada to the highest. Reaching more than 3,700 physicians is an important milestone that reflects the work our government is doing to recruit, train and retain health-care professionals across our province. We know there is still more work ahead, but this is encouraging progress for patients and families.”

This comes as 89 per cent of Manitobans have reported that they have access to a regular primary care provider, according to the 2025 OurCare National Survey. For more on the survey, click here.
