Woman facing charges after allegedly tampering with MB Hydro meter

Winnipeg police say a 46-year-old woman is facing charges after allegedly tampering with a Manitoba Hydro meter.

WPS says that in late March, officers opened an investigation after receiving a report from Manitoba Hydro that a customer’s meter had been tampered with, and power was being stolen.

Through the investigation, police learned that Manitoba Hydro had placed a load limiter on the customer’s property due to non-payment; however, after the account was paid for, a staff member went to remove the load limiter, which is when they found that it had been forcibly removed, allowing the customer to steal power from March 12 to 30.

On April 15, police took a 46-year-old woman into custody, and she is facing charges of mischief under $5,000 and theft under $5,000.
