Man charged after allegedly pointing loaded firearm at Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say a 35-year-old man is facing 22 charges after he allegedly pointed a loaded firearm at officers on Friday.
Just after 8 a.m. on July 3, WPS officers who were on patrol reportedly noticed a man riding an electric bicycle along the sidewalk of McGregor Street.
As the matter is against the Highway Traffic Act, police attempted a traffic stop, but the man continued to ride his bike, turning east on Manitoba Avenue where he later came to a stop.
Police were reportedly able to identify the man, and learned that he was breaching conditions of the electronic monitoring program (ankle monitor).
Following this, police tried to take the man into custody, at which point, one of the officers reportedly felt an unidentified object concealed on his body. This led the man to reportedly resist, wiggle out of his sweater, and run from the police.
As officers chased after the man, he allegedly pointed an object at the police, which was later confirmed to be a loaded firearm.
The man was tackled to the ground and the firearm slid across the street, and the man reportedly began telling people nearby to grab it.
Officers were able to get the man in handcuffs and seize the weapon — a sawed-off .22 calibre improvised gun with a live round.
Since then, 35-year-old Glen Edward Lussier has been charged with 22 offences, including two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, 15 counts of firearms-related offences, and five counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
