Councilor Russ Wyatt charged for allegedly drugging, sexually assaulting another man

Transcona city councillor Russ Wyatt has been charged with sexual assault and administering a noxious thing with intent to aggrieve or annoy and Winnipeg’s mayor says Wyatt should step down as he deals with the matter. Morgan Modjeski reports.

CityNews has learned that 56-year-old Winnipeg City Councilor Russ Wyatt has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting another man he met through a social website.

WPS says in February, officers began an investigation after receiving a report of an alleged sexual assault.

The report indicates that in December 2025, the man made an acquaintance with another man on a social website, which led them to meet in person on more than one occasion.

It is believed that during one of the meetings, they were at a home in the eastern part of the city, when the one was allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted.

Through an investigation, police took Councilor Wyatt into custody on March 24, and have since charged him with sexual assault and administering a noxious thing with intent to aggrieve or annoy.

CityNews has reached out to Wyatt’s office for a comment, but hasn’t heard back at this time.

The Mayor’s office says, “These are very serious allegations. The Winnipeg Police Service and the justice system must be allowed to do their job and proceed without interference. In the meantime, I would recommend the councillor step away to deal with this matter.”

Adding, “There is nothing in the City of Winnipeg Charter (provincial legislation) that would prohibit a councillor facing charges from continuing to perform their duties.”

Wyatt was previously arrested in 2018 and charged with sexual assault; the charge was later stayed in court.
